Kali Linux is a Linux distribution release March 13, 2013, based on Debian. The distribution took over Backtrack, which was based on Slackware up to version 3 and Ubuntu since version 4. Backtrack was born from the merger of Whax and Auditor.

Kali Linux's goal is to provide a distribution containing all the tools necessary for security testing of an information system.
