So I'm pretty sure that Kate Nash is like a super woman goddess. Finally it seems like she's evolved into the artist that she striving to become for the past 6 years. It's definitely not "Made Of Bricks" or "My Best Friend..." but it wasn't supposed to be and who wants to listen to the same album over and over again? People are totally freaking out over how extremely different but if they actually LISTEN to the album and not just judge it from what they've heard they'd realize that the album is really not that different. Like her previous two albums, we have catchy poppy hooks that suck you in and keep to listening and the album structure is practically identical to her sophomore album with the catchy songs in the front half and the ballad like "You Were So Far Away"-esque songs towards the end. The only thing different is that Kate goes "punk" and really throws some raw emotion into the songs that was missing a but in the past.
"Sister" is the stand out track on the album. Supposedly it's the first song Kate wrote for the album and it makes sense because once you listen to it, you can see where the other songs branch out. Another stand out track is "Part Heart" which is the perfect opening track to the album. "Rap for Rejection" is being called a misstep on the album and I partly agree with that but at the same time I sort of have a soft spot for it. The whole song just kind of makes me giggle but it's not in a bad way.
Overall, I think that the people freaking out about Kate finding a voice and evolving is ridiculous. I guess to each his own but I don't want to listen to an artist who is incapable of growing into a well developed artist with meaningful things to say. I can't wait to see where Kate goes from here.
