In colonial Africa, American railroad engineer Robert Adamson sets out from Mombasa, Kenya, to Lake Victoria to plot out a route for Africa's first transcontinental railroad. He is accompanied on this treacherous task by Jane Carlton, whose father and fiancé have both disappeared in the wilds of the African veldt, and a spunky young Arab boy, Pasha, whose slave-trader father is working with a rival railroad firm. They contend with hostile tribes, stampeding elephants and angry crocodiles.
