Rotterdam, een winter in de jaren '20. Kruimeltje werd als kind te vondeling gelegd. Nu is hij tien jaar. Hij moet grotendeels voor zichzelf zorgen, want met zijn pleegmoeder kan hij niet goed opschieten. Zij laat hem trouwens alleen binnen als hij geld meebrengt. Kruimeltje is dus een klein boefje geworden. Bij de politie is hij inmiddels vaste klant. Maar Kruimeltje blijft hopen dat ooit op een dag zijn vader zal terugkomen om voor hem te zorgen.

He is a customer of the Police Station. But Little Crumb keeps hoping his Dad will come back one day to take care of him.
