Jep Gambardella has seduced his way through the lavish nightlife of Rome for decades, but after his 65th birthday and a shock from the past, Jep looks past the nightclubs and parties to find a timeless landscape of absurd, exquisite beauty.

Onverschillig en verleidelijk biedt Rome zichzelf aan aan de verbaasde ogen van de toeristen: het is zomer en de stad straalt met een schoonheid die ongrijpbaar en onherroepelijk is. Jep Gambardella (Servillo) is 65 en hij straalt een charme uit die de tijd niet verwoest heeft. Hij is een succesvolle journalist die heen en weer fladdert tussen cultuur en het goede leven in Rome. Hij denkt echter met verbittering terug aan zijn gepassioneerde verloren jeugd.
