'Le Havre' vertelt het verhaal van Marcel Marx, een voormalige schrijver en een bekende Bohemien. Hij heeft zich teruggetrokken in een vrijwillige ballingschap in de Franse havenstad Le Havre, waar hij als eervolle, maar niet al te winstgevende schoenenpoetser werkt. Marcel heeft zijn dromen over een literaire doorbraak begraven, en heeft een gelukkig leven binnen de driehoek van zijn favoriete bar, zijn werk en zijn vrouw Arletty, als het noodlot plotseling een minderjarige allochtone vluchteling uit Afrika op zijn pad brengt. Met als enige wapen zijn aangeboren optimisme en zijn niet aflatende solidariteit met de bewoners uit zijn wijk zal Marcel het opnemen tegen de visnetten vande politie, die zich steeds meer om de jonge vluchteling beginnen te sluiten.

Storyline

When an African boy arrives by cargo ship in the port city of Le Havre, an aging shoe shiner takes pity on the child and welcomes him into his home.

Le Havre ' tells the story of Marcel Marx, a former writer and a well-known Bohemian. He has retreated into a voluntary exile in the French port city of Le Havre, where he as Honorable, but not too profitable shoe cleaner works. Marcel has his dreams about a literary breakthrough buried, and has a happy life within the triangle of his favorite bar, his work and his wife Arletty, if fate suddenly an underage immigrant refugee from Africa brings on his path. With the only weapon his innate optimism and his unfailing solidarity with the residents of his neighborhood will Marcel the record against the nets vande police, who are increasingly close to the young refugee to begin.
