First five songs -the Fillmore West set- are of a superior quality, I mean, tinkered-with-in-the studio quality, especially when taking into consideration that these recordings are 46 years old. What's also 'strange' is that the mono recording is sitting on the left channel only. The right channel has nil sound, except for the occasional echo. My guess is that -like I used to do myself with my old 4-track ReVox (A77 MK III)- mono recordings were put on a single track in order to be able to put other mono recordings on the other track(s). That way you could double or quadruple the playing time of a reel. Second batch, the Maida Vale recordings, start off with a short introduction by Alexis Korner and jump right into the start of "What Is And What Should Never Be". Quality is still great, but there's audible 'swimming' of the sound due to tape deterioration, especially in the first song, although it gets better as things move along. Still mono, but spread over two channels this time. And then there's the last two tracks. To be honest, I haven't got a clue why these were included as the sound is dreadful. "Whole Lotta Love" is passable for those who used to listen to "France Inter" on the AM shortwave, back in the 60ies and 70ies, but "Train Kept a Rollin" is garbage to the point one can't even make out which song is playing. The sound pitch changes halfway through but the quality doesn't improve much, so, you've been warned... Front & Back covers came with the torrent, but as usual I added a selfmade CD label. Got these files from someone called "Equinox" at TapeCity in March 2007. The man/woman has my thanks. Enjoy!
