Leonard Nimoy: Star Trek Memories (1983) was a TV special which was produced in 1983 and first aired in 1984. It was hosted by Leonard Nimoy and featured the actor discussing the making of The Original Series and the first two Star Trek movies, Star Trek: The Motion Picture and Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. It also included a short preview of Star Trek III: The Search for Spock.

The documentary was filmed in Boston, Massachusetts at the Channel 56 television studios and ran about fifty minutes to fill a one hour TV time slot. At the time, the channel was part of the Kaiser Broadcasting Group, partially owned by the Boston Globe newspaper group.
The Outer Limits: I, Robot (1964) apart from the fact that the Outer Limits was one of the favorite TV shows of my youth, two things attracted me to this episode. The first being Leonard Nimoy, and the second being the episode's title. "I, Robot" is also the title of a classic bit of science fiction by the master of the genre, Isaac Asimov. It was he who was responsible for the "Three Laws of Robotics" which have figured so prominently in today's sci-fi entertainment.

The Adam Link stories first appeared in Amazing Stories magazine between 1939 and 1942, written by Eando Binder, a pseudonym used jointly by brothers Earl and Otto Binder. Unusually for a robot at that time, Adam was a sympathetic character with genuine emotions, and the tales were narrated by Adam himself. "I Robot" first appeared in Amazing Stories Vol. 13/no. 1 (January 1939).

Leonard Simon Nimoy, born to Ukrainian Jewish immigrants - began his long career in acting at the age of 8, by appearing in various plays at the local community theatre in his hometown of Boston, MA. He continued to appear in amateur productions until the age of 18, while also attending Boston University on a dramatic scholarship. When he decided to pursue acting more seriously, he dropped out of school and moved to California hoping to find more opportunities. Only one year after arriving there, he was cast in his first leading role in the film Kid Monk Baroni.

After two years in the military he was still appearing in various bit parts, in films, and on television - one of which would eventually lead him to pop-culture immortality. His big break came when Gene Roddenberry spotted Leonard in an episode of The Lieutenant (also created by Roddenberry) - Gene offered him a leading role in a new science fiction series he was creating. A role that he though was a perfect fit - Mr. Spock, a half-Vulcan/half-human science officer. Leonard accepted, not knowing that he would eventually make television history.

When Star Trek was cancelled in 1969, Leonard went on to appear in many noted roles in film and television.

Gene Roddenberry, the creator of Star Trek, called Spock its “conscience”, a quizzical, alien and yet also humane moral sense which pervaded the original NBC series as well as subsequent big-screen outings.

His first autobiography, I Am Not Spock, published in 1977, said that as the Vulcan he found the best of both worlds, gaining public approval while still being able to play an other-worldly character. He published another, I Am Spock, in 1995. “To this day, I sense Vulcan speech patterns, Vulcan social attitudes and even Vulcan patterns of logic and emotional suppression in my behavior,” Nimoy noted. It was not a complaint. “Given the choice, if I had to be someone else, I would be Spock.”
