Inspector Lewis returns from retirement to help Hathaway (who has returned after leaving the force at the end of season 7, but I digress) with his first murder case as a DSI. The episode opens with an arson at a hunting lodge followed by the usual spate of Oxford murders. Although it seems to wrap up there may be more developments to follow in next week's episode.
