For various reasons, the captain to a British nuclear armed submarine receives orders to fire his nuclear salvo at Moscow. It is a false alarm, but the UK government is unable to reach the submarine to rescind its orders........

Not a new idea - think the 1960's book and film "Fail Safe" - but very competently done here.
