Here is the video content of "Little Shop of Horrors the Special Edition" Disc 2, with Special Features titled Alien Encounters which included the reconstructed original ending of Little Shop of Horrors which had been cut and replaced with the current ending of the film before it was released into theaters in 1986. Reportedly, this disc was recalled by Geffen only one day after it was released in stores, sometime about a decade after the film was produced. Apparently there is something about the original ending of the film, which is more faithful to the Broadway musical than the theatrical cut, which the producers would prefer you do not see.



The original ending was never completely finished, so what we have here is a black and white version, missing some music and sound effects. But the songs and the acting are of the same quality as that in the film that was released.



The Broadway musical (like the, albeit cheesy, 1960 predecessor film) is much darker than the 1986 film in that it has an unhappy ending, much like the original ending that was cut from the film. But the filmmakers lost their balls sometime during the making of the film and decided to give it a happy ending based on one test screening of the film. If you are a fan of this movie then you have to see the original ending!

These videos were copied from the VOB files using Smartripper; the video was encoded using Virtualdub with Divx 6.6.8 and the audio with LAME at 192 kbps.

You may also want to check out my rough cut of the film with the happy ending cut out and the original ending restored. Even despite the incomplete nature of the original ending presented in this DVD, it is good to see it in context. But keep in mind my edit is not meant to be perfect and is distributed mainly for novelty purposes. The .torrent file for that movie is also included in this torrent.



It is my hope that maybe if enough people become aware of this film's spectacular original ending that somebody will have the guts to produce a new, darker version of the movie. Of course no offense is meant to Frank Oz, Rick Moranis, et. al., because I love this film to death even with a happy ending.
