You probably already know what lolicore is, if you've bothered searching for it and already clicked your way here. For those who have found their way here accidentally or out of curiosity . . . well . . . lolicore is hard to describe. It's electronic/techno style music (although that term is, as they say, used loosely). It consists most typically of sampled voices from anime (mostly young girl voices) and looped, distorted, and otherwise manipulated, all to fast, heavy bass rhythms.

The end result is a something that ranges from the humorous to the disturbingly suggestive. Sometimes it sounds like it might even be illegal in some countries.

According to the Urban Dictionary (Wikipedia won't touch it), lolicore is "A musical genre associate(d) with speedcore, noise and hardcore techno in general. Almost always associate(d) with disturbing humor and provocative lyrics." *ahem* Yes. Indeed.

The titles of many lolicore tunes are indeed provocative -- heck, the names of many lolicore =artists= are indeed provocative! ("No Loli Gagging") There's a reason only a few are actually listed by name across the top.

However, despite the apparent subject matter, the actual end result is more satirical and parodic -- not erotic. After all, can an artist using the name "Loli Waffen SS" =really= be taken seriously?

We noticed in our avid collection activities that lolicore was startlingly absent from KAT, and that something should be done about it. So, rather than visiting here to expand my collection, I am putting it up for the world to experience.

Finally, of all things, musical and otherwise, of which it is said "It's kind of an acquired taste," lolicore may be the perfect exemplar of that remark. This certainly will NOT be to everyone's taste, and that's OK. If you're not sure you want to burn up time and bandwidth downloading some 4 gig of mp3s, try the Yuri Yum Yum folder for starters. It's a bit lighter and more approachable than some of the rest. If you find you like it, help yourself to the rest. And there is FAR more lolicore out there than this collection; Last.fm has a huge library of it (along with music of all other kinds.)
