Description Piffaro combines the functions of a traditional "loud ensemble" (cornetts and sackbuts) with a "broken ensemble," or one placing different instruments together that didn't naturally "fit." So it offers cornetts and sackbutts, but its members also perform on recorders, shawms, lute, bagpipes, percussion, and a range of similar Renaissance instruments.
