‘Losing Layla’ vertelt het verhaal van de Australische documentairemaakster Vanessa Gorman en haar vriend Michael Shaw.

Tussen beide dertigers woedt de discussie of ze al dan niet kinderen willen. Als Vanessa uiteindelijk zwanger blijkt,

beslist ze deze periode in hun relatie te registreren met een digitale camera. Ook de eigenlijke bevalling van dochtertje

Layla wordt gefilmd door Vanessa’s vriendin en collega Cathy Henkel. Maar dan gaat het mis.
Na een zware bevalling wordt Layla geboren met ernstige ademhalingsproblemen. 8 uur later overlijdt ze in de armen van

vader Michael. Toch besluiten de rouwende ouders de camera te laten lopen. Het resulteert in beelden van onvoorstelbaar

intens verdriet, maar ook in een diepemotioneel verslag van het verwerkingsproces dat het koppel noodgedwongen moet

doormaken.
