The sound is more electronic than orchestral, and hence that makes "Juvy" an exception to most of the music on this score. "Adonis" turns to the more traditional score. "Meeting Rocky" is predictably introverted. It isn't until midway through this soundtrack that we get to some of the more interesting stuff here. "Front Street Gym" is the first of several 'training' montages. "The Sporino Fight" gives the first pulsating music for Johnson's/Creed's first attention-grabbing fight in the US. If you haven't seen the film yet, I'd encourage you to stay away from reading the titles of the various tracks, as they give away entire plot points. It happens all too often on these types of soundtracks, unfortunately. Many of the tracks are in the 1 to 2 minute range, just brushing a musical moment to underscore a particular moment of the movie (check "I Got You", "Caught In the Shadow", etc.). The best track is of course the epic 7 min. "The Conlan Fight", coming at the movie's climax. "You're a Creed" is also quite bombastic (in the best possible way). Bottom line: this is an okay score, but what it lacks are the one or two TRUE signature moments that made Bill Conti's scores so memorable (please note that in the movie we get a short snippet of "Gonna Fly Now" at the beginning of the Conlan fight, which is not included on this soundtrack). ~ By Paul Allaer Sharing Widget |
