Two thousand five hundred budding entrepreneurs applied to be part of Make Me a Million, answering an ad asking "do you want to make a million in one year?" The applicants had just three rules: have a business partner, be armed with an idea and find 30,000 pounds between them. Multi-millionaires Ivan Massow, Emma Harrison and Chris Gorman are challenged to choose successful business entrepreneurs from a shortlist of applicants.



The three mentors are competing against each other to see who can create the most successful business with their new proteges in just one year. After choosing which team to work with, the millionaires waste no time and get the business going, each in their individual mentor style. Emma immediately takes the chairman role, Ivan decides his new business needs his full attention, and Chris leaves his budding entrepreneurs to get on with it.



From day one reality hits for the budding entrepreneurs: They earn no money. They work day and night, which puts a strain on their relationships. They're thrown into high-powered business meetings. They find it near impossible to manage their home problems. On top of all that, they're under relentless pressure from their mentors to get deals and make money. Immediately it's clear the success of these businesses will be determined by the relationships of the people creating them: some are beginning to flourish, while others are beginning to crack.

Personal note: One reason I enjoyed Make Me a Million is that with so few participants, there is no difficulty in getting to "know" them. In the case of one team, I wanted to reach through the screen and shake some sense into them. Although four hours isn't much time to cover an entire year, the show does a credible job of showing how the teams start their businesses, the input of their mentors, and the various pitfalls and successes along the way.



Likely to be of particular interest to those who enjoy The Apprentice, albeit with no Sir Alan Sugar or Donald Trump figure, and no boardrooms.
