Plot :

The planet Krypton faces imminent destruction due to its unstable core, the result of years of depleting Krypton's natural resources. The ruling council is deposed by the planet's military commander General Zod and his followers during a military coup. Scientist Jor-El and his wife Lara launch their newborn son Kal-El on a spacecraft to Earth after infusing his cells with a genetic codex of the entire Kryptonian race. After Zod murders Jor-El, he and his followers are captured and banished to the Phantom Zone. However, when Krypton later explodes, they are freed.

Kal-El's ship lands in Smallville, a small town in Kansas. He is raised as the adopted son of Jonathan and Martha Kent, who name him Clark. Clark's Kryptonian physiology affords him superhuman abilities on Earth, which initially cause him confusion and ostracism. However, he gradually learns to harness his powers to help others. Jonathan reveals to a teenage Clark that he is an alien and advises him not to use his powers publicly, fearing that society will reject him.

After Jonathan's death, an adult Clark spends several years living a nomadic lifestyle, working different jobs under false identities...

Trama :

Sul pianeta Krypton il neonato Kal, figlio dello scienziato Jor-El e di sua moglie Lara Lor-Van, è il primo bambino concepito tramite parto naturale dopo millenni di manipolazioni genetiche operate sugli embrioni. Per preservare il suo patrimonio genetico puro, e salvarlo da un'imminente catastrofe naturale che sta distruggendo il pianeta, i genitori decidono di andare contro le leggi della civiltà kryptoniana e far fuggire il bambino, tramite una navicella di salvataggio. Nel frattempo il generale Zod, leader militare e fervido patriota di Krypton, tenta un colpo di stato nella convinzione di salvare il pianeta dalla rovina grazie ai codici genetici della stirpe kryptoniana, ma viene fermato da Jor-El, il quale ha trafugato i codici e li ha nascosti nella capsula di suo figlio; la navetta di Kal-El riesce a prendere il volo appena in tempo, e Zod infuriato uccide il suo rivale. Il consiglio kryptoniano arresta il generale rinnegato e i suoi sottoposti, e li condanna all'esilio nella Zona Fantasma. Lara ha a malapena pochi minuti per piangere la morte di suo marito, mentre osserva impotente l'autodistruzione del suo pianeta.

Atterrato nella periferia della cittadina di Smallville in Kansas, il piccolo Kal-El viene trovato da una coppia di contadini, Jonathan e Martha Kent, che decidono di crescerlo come loro figlio e lo chiamano Clark; il giovane extraterrestre cresce nella fattoria ignaro della sua reale provenienza fin quando scopre di possedere abilità e poteri straordinari non comuni a nessun altro essere umano...
