The song was written Justin Tranter, Julia Michaels, and BloodPop. It was produced by Tranter, BloodPop, and Mark Ronson. According to a statement from Interscope, money from the sale of the song "will benefit Equality Florida Pulse Victims Fund, the GLBT Community Center of Central Florida, and GLAAD." The song was conceived by Justin Tranter, according to Billboard. "Like the rest of the world I woke up to the news that morning and was horrified and sad and scared," he said. When the songwriter asked The Center Orlando, an area LGBT community center, if they needed help, he says they responded, "We need as many hands as we can possibly get."
