Description Haunting and emotional traditional and liturgical music deriving from the pain of loss, the material presented here spans some 1100 years and pays tribute to the Irish tradition which recognizes three sorts of laments: 'caoineadh' which is a 'keening' or crying, often with improvised words; 'marbhra' which is an elegy about the lost one; and 'cumha' which is an air without words. These are songs and tunes of profound sadness, but hope is born out of the expression of sorrow, and there is a sense that even in our darkest hours, the divine light at the heart of the human spirit shines through.
