other people struggling you need to update windows fully. search in google for microsoft xna also search for microsoft directx update and microsoft fix it. also update regular windows files fully. download the graphics file from this torrent and follow instructions.

The site wants comments. Well, it took me a week almost to get it right, but what worked for me (Windows 7 Ultra x64) were the RELOADED torrents. First the basic game, "Max.Payne.3-RELOADED", as 4 DVD set, with crack on DVD 4. That worked, but would not stay in full screen, within one minute, I was in window mode and that sucked. Next came the update torrent, "Max.Payne.3.Update.v1.0.0.22-RELOADED". This one brought the game up to date, made everything work perfectly, and made my day.
NOTES: IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT YOU KEEP THIS GAME OFF THE INTERNET AT ALL TIMES! You can actually play the game after the first torrent download and install if you pull your internet and then test it out. Follow the instructions to the letter, my advice, unplug your network cable or shut off WiFi until game is setup and ready. Some say you can block the game with Windows Firewall, use the "Allow a program or feature through Windows Firewall". It doesn't work. You can add PlayMaxPayne3.exe to the block list 5 times, each time it will appear with several random characters after the filename, NONE of them the same. So, in est, you cannot block this application by name in the firewall. What worked was to block the remote PORT that Rockstar uses to check your game. Use the Advanced Settings on Windows Firewall to create a new outbound rule to block port 58487. Name it "Block Rockstar" or whatever you want and save it. As added protection, you can add the domain and IP address of the Rockstar servers to your host list, but since using a TCP trace program to determine the IP address and domain were fake, the only thing that was real was the port, that helped a lot. If you want to add to your "C:WindowsSystem32driversetchosts" file, add this:\n

Save the hosts file and right click, Properties, check the Read Only box to prevent anything from changing it.\n
Do all that stuff and the game will play in offline mode, perfectly, if your computer has the balls to play it. OR, if you do not want to mess with all the network blocking, just pull your internet plug and play. Do that first anyway, to make sure you got it right before going through the network blocking procedure.
