Released: 2012 Label: Blues Boulevard Format : Mp3@320  A remarkably prolific artist who brought a vigorous air of urban sophistication to his always-stunning performances and recordings, Memphis Slim unquestionably ranks with the greatest Blues pianists of all time. His thundering piano attack set him apart from most of his contemporaries, while his deeply burnished voice possessed a commanding authority. Living in Europe since the early Sixties, Memphis Slim brought the Blues to audiences who might otherwise never have heard it, whilst he always maintained contact with its roots and sources. Slim is accompanied here by Alexis Korner, most often referred to as the "Founding Father of British Blues". And although there still might have been a British Blues scene in the early 1960s without Korner, chances are that it would have been very different from the boom that spawned the Rolling Stones, nurtured the early talents of Eric Clapton and Jack Bruce, and made it possible for figures such as John Mayall to reach an audience; all of the aforementioned having played with his Blues Incorporated or otherwise benefited from Korner’s mentorship.
