Greenfoot (along with this book) makes learning Java and creating Java games/apps easy. Java programs run on Windows, Mac, Linux, tablets, etc... without needing tweaked and re-compiled first. Since most modern computers have the Java runtime environment already installed, end-users won't even need to download/install anything special to run your apps (or play your games). Java's probably the best "beginner" programming language that is also powerful enough to transcend novice applications.
