Using archive film and computer graphics, this programme charts the

development and operation of Hitler's Jet planes and 'Vengeance' weapons.

These included the Messerschmidt ME262 jet fighter, and the ME163

rocket-propelled interceptor, which was sometimes more dangerous for the

pilot than for the enemy.



The film shows the use of the V1 flying bomb, commonly known in Londonr

as the 'doodlebug', which was the forerunner of today's cruise missile,

and was adapted to a manned version suitable for suicide missions. A prototye

Junkers JU390 flew from Germany to New York and back in January 1944 in a test

attempt to bring the war to American soil. Also proposed was an attack on

America using a V2 launched from a U-boat, but as this film shows, the very

difficult launch procedure would have been impossible from a U-boat at that

time during the war. Years later, this idea would become a reality with the

advent of the nuclear submarine.
