“The Raging Wrath of the Easter Bunny “, prende il nome in riferimento al periodo di registrazione del

lavoro: Pasqua,è il loro secondo passo compiuto ad un anno di distanza, mixato da Spruance con un semplice

Tascam a 4 piste, è una demo dal sapore death metal con inserimenti tribali tramite l’uso di percussioni

e strofe cariche del punk così poco apprezzato in quel contesto underground.

Originariamente registrato su cassetta nel 1987, venne distribuito senza il permesso della band nel 1991 Playhouse Productions) come bootleg, col titolo errato di "Bowl of Chiley," e successivamente ridistribuito nel 1997 (Rastacore Records) in CD, finche la band non ne fece bloccare la distribuzione. Con “Bowel of Chiley” i Mr. Bungle dimostrano i primi legami con ritmiche ska,reggae. Oltre ad una maggior personalità dei musicisti, le geometrie tra Trevor e Trey cono in perfetta intesa (Freight Train) e mostrano i primi acerbi virtuosismi (Jumping part 1) al servizio di una serratissima metrica. Ma la qualità sonora ancora non rende giustizio al valore effettivo della band.

[...continua] Ma la svolta non tarda ad arrivare: con l’incremento di date in giro per la California, la band fa amicizia con Billy Gould il bassista e membro fondatore della band “Faith No More”, il quale nota in Mike Patton doti di talento fuori dal comune, in effetti il vocalist con la successiva demo “Goddammit I Love America!” mostra i suoi notevolissimi passi avanti verso la piena maturazione, segue linee melodiche degne di

Angelo Moore, mostrando una estensione vocale sfruttata davvero adeguatamente, in un cantato che

alternando rime a mitraglia (Bloody Mary) ad acuti soul (Goosebumps) , irridendo la staticità in tutte le

sue forme, adeguandosi all’eclettismo della band (alle prese persino con uno scanzonato valzer) e fugando

ogni dubbio verso i padri ispiratori delle composizioni: i Fishbone ( Definition Of Shapes), permettandosi il

lusso di dilatare il brano accennando ad una cover degli INXS (i need you tonight) e una citazione a

Grandmaster Flash. Egg e Carousel verranno poi promosse in seguito nel primo album della band.

In odore di contratto,nello stesso 1989, la band pubblica la quarta e ultima demo “OU818” (titolo dall’intento pariodistico verso le diatribe in seno alla band “Van Harlen”), e ben 4 dei 5 pezzi proposti,termineranno poi nella tracklist dell’album ufficiale. A non farcela è solo l’interessantissima “Mr Nice Guy”, giudicata forse troppo “peppersiana” dalla band che, visti gli attriti tra Kiedis e Patton, decisero di non rischiare ulteriori coinvolgimenti. Preziosa comunque, la citazione strumentale del popolare pezzo della storia della musica partenopea “Funiculì Funiculà”, mentre “O Sole Mio”, che aleggia nell’ aria di GirlsOf Porn (aperta da una sequenza parlata di un film porno passato da Billy Gould , che rende il bassista meritevole di finire nella lista dei ringraziamenti nella tape).
