Description
SLI 50' Thrall Coal Gondolas In 1969, Kaiser Steel began accepting some of the first unit coal trains in the United States. A joint agreement between the Union Pacific, Santa Fe, and Denver & Rio Grande Western railroads facilitated the movement of dedicated coal trains from the Colorado/Utah coal basin to the Kaiser Steel Mill in the Fontana California. Thrall Car Company supplied the 100 ton coal gondolas for the so-named Coal Liner service, complete with rotary couplers to allow for quick unloading. Other railroads eventually followed suit, and before long, this style of coal gondolas became standard features on coal trains across the United States. High capacity aluminum bathtub gondolas have replaced these cars for the most part, but many of them can still be found plying their trade to this day. Product Features 6 cars in the following liveries: Santa Fe (2 versions) Burlington Northern Denver & Rio Grande Western Public Service of Colorado (PSCX) Union Pacific Sharing WidgetTrailerScreenshots |
