MSTS - Addon - SLI Amtrak Southwest Chief Trainset (Size: 44.03 MB)
Description
The Southwest Chief is one of Amtrak's western transcontinental trains between Chicago IL. and Los Angeles CA., following in the footsteps of the original Santa Fe Super Chief. This train makes its way westward across the midwestern US states traversing a variety of different geographical areas, including the American Plains, the Colorado Plateau, the Arizona Mountain Forest, and the Mojave Desert. The Southwest Chief has been operating since the formation of Amtrak in 1971. This particular product is designed to closely replicate this train consist as it would have appeared in 1995, which is in the same timeframe as the ATSF Seligman Route. The P40DC locomotives are wearing the Amtrak Phase III scheme in which they were delivered when Amtrak purchased the locomotives from General Electric in 1993. Behind the engines are two Material Handling Cars. These purpose built cars were used by Amtrak from 1986 to 2004 and handled express and US Postal Service shipments. Their unique appearance is the result of the need to ensure that the cars do not hamper the streamlined appearance of the train. Furthermore, low tunnel clearances in the eastern states meant that the cars had to be short enough to meet these clearance requirements. The Superliner II cars, built by Bombardier starting in 1993, are painted in the as-delivered Phase IV scheme.
