Long before Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers achieved world domination, future Heart­breakers Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench, and Gainesville, Fla., buds Tom Leadon and Randall Marsh played in this little band that didn’t quite make it big. Their fine 2008 reunion album was un­expected, and this follow-up was even more unlikely. But it’s stuffed with fun, meat-and-potatoes Southern rock ’n’ roll. The cute, clever “Trailer,” written and sung by Petty, namechecks Lynryd Skynyrd and gets the disc off to a rousing start. Two other Petty songs are polar opposites: “Beautiful Blue” is a long, spacey country jam with sparkling pedal steel guitar while “Forgive It All” is a lovely ballad that features Petty’s nasal Dylan drawl at its finest. Campbell, Tench, Marsh and Leadon each contribute a song on which they sing lead vocals, and all are splendid. This is an enjoyable, well-played full-band effort, not a stopgap effort between Petty albums. - Bill Brotherton
