DescriptionBack in the 16th century, Naples' population stood around 125,000: a reasonably large city for Europe in its day. If you went there during a festival--or to any number of other, smaller cities and towns--you would likely encounter theatrical troupes performing skits, songs, and dances. It would probably sound like the music on this lively, entertaining album. Here's an example: http://tindeck.com/listen/ixiv There are quieter works for lute interspersed, but much of it has the same festive, silly, catchy characteristics of Chichilichi. Alla Francesca is no stranger, here. They've been around for several decades. Located in Italy, they deservedly boast a thorough knowledge of early music traditions in their neighborhood--and elsewhere, as well. Full scans enclosed of essays, texts, and translations in Italian, French, German, and English.
