Since cable providers provide both TV and internet over the same wire, they use heavy compression on their TV signals to reduce the amount of bandwidth the TV signals use and increase the bandwidth available to be used for internet traffic. That means their signals are broadcast at higher bitrates (usually in the 12-15Mbps range) than cable or satellite (typically in the 8-10Mbps range). Why should you care?
