Over the course of a few hectic days, numerous interrelated people prepare

postaci.Na obchody 200-lecia Nashville przyjeżdżają zarówno bezrobotna
śpiewaczka Barbara Jean, starzejący się gwiazdor muzyki country Heaven Hamilton,
jak i kandydat na prezydenta John Triplette. Wszyscy spotykają się podczas wielkiego
przyjęcia urządzanego z okazji kampanii wyborczej, na którym nagle młody człowiek strzela
do śpiewaka. Zanim tłum wpada w panikę, artystka intonuje pieśń i wszystko wraca do normy,
zgodnie z maksymą - "The show must go on".
