Description
The Pianist
Based on Władysław Szpilman's memoirs of his experience in the Warsaw Ghetto, this duet for piano and voice charts one man's remarkable story of courage and survival. Read by actor Peter Guinness In the UK during WWII it was forbidden to ring church bells without official sanction. Their use was reserved for announcing that German troops had landed. They were to be rung when the codeword 'Cromwell' was received at local defence stations. Howard Triest was a German Jew who acted as a translator during their questioning. Towards the end of the war in Germany in 1945 a couple of GIs discovered the German Foreign Ministry's archive. They just prevented some German soldiers from destroying the lot. The files were moved to Marburg castle for safety. Summaries were sent to London and Washington for review. Papers dealing with the Duke of Windsor were discovered. A couple of months after this discovery, Anthony Blunt (then working for KGVI's wife), showed-up and filleted the archive of these items. Related Torrents
