They make similar use of ensemble riffs and, when armed with his pocket trumpet, Minafra conjures up the image of the late, lamented Mongezi Feza.» «Perhaps this is only a general impression because this quintet does have a personality of its own. Minafra is a very good player on all his horns, Cavallanti is a useful Sheppish saxophonist and Bonvini makes honest trombone statements that fit the style ideally. Dalla Porta is outstanding in a mobile rhythm section and each of the themes is developed with imagination, this being especially true in the case of the moving “Seals”. The steady traffic of American modernists through the Milan studios has obviously had its beneficial affects.» Source: Jazz Journal aprile 1984 - Barry McRae (google books) Logs Data Preview Nexus - Open Mouth Blues (1983) - Full Album (42:30) Notes More info (italian language): Jazz Project (TNT Village) Sharing Widget |
