They make similar use of ensemble riffs and, when armed with his pocket trumpet, Minafra conjures up the image of the late, lamented Mongezi Feza.» «Perhaps this is only a general impression because this quintet does have a personality of its own. Minafra is a very good player on all his horns, Cavallanti is a useful Sheppish saxophonist and Bonvini makes honest trombone statements that fit the style ideally. Dalla Porta is outstanding in a mobile rhythm section and each of the themes is developed with imagination, this being especially true in the case of the moving “Seals”.
