Nicholas Nickleby - Radio Dramatisation (Size: 372.05 MB)
Description
A dramatisation of the Dickens novel. 30 X 15 minute episodes.
When his father dies, Nicholas Nickleby is forced by his cold-hearted uncle Ralph to seek his fortune in the world, away from his mother and sister. He is sent as a teacher to Dotheboys Hall where he meets the simple minded Smike. They run away together and have varied adventures, while his sister Kate too has to endure many trials and tribulations, while all the time Ralph seeks to undermine the family. This is a long, complex but fascinating novel. It is thus inevitable that much must be left out in a 3.5 hour production - the stage adaptation lasts over 11 hours, the foreshortened "Chichester" version taking "only" 8 hours - thus much is lost, but Mike Walker has done an excellent job of retaining the key parts of the story, making for compelling listening.
