NIGHTFELL The Living Ever Mourn Place Of Origin: Portland, OR, USA Release Year: 2014 Ripping Source: CD Label: Southern Lord Catalog Number: LORD190 Ripped With: EAC (Secure And Test) with LOG and CUE Format: FLAC Scans: Yes Tracklisting: 1 The Last Disease 2 Apparitions Appear 3 I Am Decay 4 Empty Prayers 5 The Hollowing 6 Reaping Commences 7 Altars To Wrath 8 Funeral Dirge Quote: Nightfell are a two-piece doom metal band from Portland, Oregon comprising of Todd Burdette (COPOUT, TRAGEDY, HIS HERO IS GONE, WARCRY, TRAUMA, SEVERED HEAD OF STATE) and Tim Call (ALDEBARAN, TUSKS OF BLOOD, SEMPITERNAL DUSK). If you listen to the album you wouldn’t believe that it’s the work of only two musicians. With eight tracks clocking in at 40 minutes, Nightfell‘s debut album ‘The Living Ever Mourn’ is a heavy compilation fueled by the collision of riffs and guttural roars. The album begins with ‘The Last Disease’, starting off with a melodic tone, before the track implodes. This is a pattern that can be found in a few of tracks on the record. The intro may be melodic, but it still possesses a sense of eerieness. It’s a sort of more distant, hollow sounding build up that eventually leads to the harshness of the track. The tracks ‘I’ and ‘II’, which serve as interludes between the tracks, seem like an elongation of the intros found scattered among the tracks. It allows a moment of calm before the following song comes in wrecking everything in sight. The two tracks are also very similar sonically and can be considered continuations of one another. These are not gut wrenching songs to head bang to, so they simply serve as a way to build up the atmosphere. ‘The Hollowing’ is an extremely intense track. Its fast-paced nature is present from the very first note. The focus of the track is on the marriage of the never ending riff alongside the steady drumming and harsh vocals. It only breaks its pattern towards the end of the track when it rolls into the bridge; where clean vocals come into the picture. Although, “clean” may not necessarily be the perfect word to describe the raspy, spoken passage. To close the album off is the ever so powerful ‘Funeral Dirge’, quite possibly the high point of the album. The track begins with a melodic tone before unleashing a crazy, skull crushing pace, that eventually leads back to slowing things down again towards the middle of the track (yes, there’s room to do all this; it’s an eight minute track!) The song brings Nightfell‘s impressive debut to a close as it fades away to sound of only drums. ‘The Living Ever Mourn’ is solid album, made even more impressive by the fact that it is the two-man band’s debut album. The record possesses everything you would look for: incredible riffs, infectious drumming and the mixture of spoken passages and growling vocals. There’s a dark, eerie feel throughout the record, and the several attempts to slow things down never really take away the heaviness of Nightfell‘s sound. - Hitthefloor Genre: Doom Subgenre: Death Crust Bitrate: Lossless Size: 275.35 MB Show/Hide Files: File Name Size 08 - Funeral Dirge.flac 50.93 MB 01 - The Last Disease.flac 44.40 MB 05 - The Hollowing.flac 43.03 MB 03 - I Am Decay.flac 41.71 MB 04 - Empty Prayers.flac 40.78 MB 07 - Altars To Wrath.flac 34.80 MB 06 - Reaping Commences.flac 11.37 MB 02 - Apparitions Appear.flac 6.65 MB Inside (3).jpg 400.51 KB Inside (2).jpg 386.29 KB Inside (1).jpg 330.79 KB Cover.jpg 325.67 KB Traycard.jpg 268.84 KB Nightfell - The Living Ever Mourn.log 9.94 KB The Living Ever Mourn.cue 1.19 KB Nightfell - The Living Ever Mourn.m3u 0.53 KB Sharing Widget |
