Norton Internet Security has all the same features as Norton AntiVirus, but

NIS also includes a firewall and offers full internet protection, unlike NAV.

Norton Trial Reset 2011 v3.1.3 (NTR2011-v3.1.3) extends the trial period of Norton

2011 (NAV + NIS) to 120 trial days, so there's more time to evaluate the product.



To extend the trial days, just uninstall the NTR before the subscription expires

and install the NTR again for another 120 days of subscription.

Installation notes:

>> Before using a new NTR always uninstall any used previous NTR first  

  by using the [Uninstall] option of the used NTR.



1. If Norton is installed and [expired], then [Uninstall] Norton.

  (If Norton is installed but has not expired, then skip to Step 4.)



2. Restart your computer and run NTR2011-v3.1.3 to purge Norton.



3. Install Norton 2011 (NAV or NIS).



4. Turn off the [Norton Product Tamper Protection] in the 'Miscellaneous Settings'.



5. Install NTR2011-v3.1.3 while you are online, and follow the instructions.

  (Don't run NTR2011-v3.1.3 when Norton is updating or scanning the computer.)



6. After installation, create a fake Norton Account just to get rid of the nag.

  (Or read the notes below: "How to stop popping up of the Norton Account".)



7. Update Norton, configure Norton's settings, and restart the computer.



>> Done, don't forget to do a full system scan!



Help, Troubleshooting, General Info:

* Note A: If Norton expires prematurely, then click {Subscribe Now} to check

         the Norton subscription.



* Note B: To extend the trial days, just uninstall the NTR before the subscription

         expires and install the NTR again for another 120 days of subscription.



* Note C: If you want to uninstall the Trial Reset just click 'Uninstall'.

         Make sure that you uninstall the Trial Reset before removing Norton.



* Note D: You may need to run the Trial Reset using an Administrator account

         (right-click on the Trial Reset and choose 'Run as Administrator').



* Note E: If the Trial Reset is detected/blocked by your antivirus software then

         add it to the exclusions lists of real-time protection and auto-scan.

         You may need to temporarily disable real-time protection and auto-scan

         when adding the Trial Reset to the exclusions lists, or when using it.



* Note F: If the Trial Reset is removed by your antivirus software then restore

         and exclude it through your antivirus (Quarantaine or History, or

         something similar).



How to stop popping up of the Norton Account:

If you're online and open up Norton then the Norton Account screen may pop up.

Also sometimes the Norton system tray Registration nag screen randomly may pop up.



There are two (2) options to disable popping up of the Norton Account and

Registration nag screen:



Option 1 to disable popping up of the Norton Account and Registration nag screen:

* After installation, create a fake Norton Account just to get rid of the nag.



Option 2 to disable popping up of the Norton Account and Registration nag screen:

* Add the following lines to the hosts file at e.g. C:Windowssystem32driversetc



>> Note that you may need to edit the hosts file using an Administrator account.

1. By default the hosts file is set to 'Read-only'. To be able to save

  changes of the hosts file UNcheck the 'Read-only' box at file properties:

  right-click on the hosts file, choose 'Properties', and UNcheck 'Read only'.  

 

2. Open the hosts file with Notepad: right-click on the hosts file and choose

  'Open with Notepad'. (Make sure that the box 'Always open with' is UNchecked,

  so that the hosts file is opened just once with Notepad.)



3. Add the following lines to your hosts file, and apply & save the changes:

127.0.0.1       www.mynortonaccount.com

127.0.0.1       mynortonaccount.conxion.com

127.0.0.1       www.mynortonaccount.com.gtm.symantec.com



>> Also you may add these lines bewlow:

4. The hosts file can be set back to 'Read-only' when done. (Note that addresses

  added to the hosts file will be blocked for all your software.)

Instead of editing your hosts file, also you may these addresses to your

firewall ip blocklist:

Or, depending on your firewall, add the addresses like this:

Note about Norton detecting and removing changes of the hosts file:

*******************************************************************

Norton may detect the hosts file changes as a security risk: SecurityRisk.URLRedir



The detected security risk may be removed by Norton, meaning that Norton will

undo the changes of the hosts file and remove the lines added to the hosts file.

Result is popping up again of the Norton Account and Registration nag screen.



The removed security risk can be restored and excluded by Norton (search for

SecurityRisk.URLRedir at Norton History, Quarantaine, or something similar).



Note that the 'Read-only' box from the hosts file must be unchecked first

before Norton can restore the removed lines which were added to the hosts file.
