Not for Ourselves Alone The Story of Elizabeth Cady Stanton & Susan B. Anthony (Size: 371.83 MB)
Description
Excellently developed documentary recalling the near lifelong political and personal partnership, and work of Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony to achieve women’s equality across the entire spectrum of domestic, social, political, and economic domains. These two women emerged from entirely different sites on the social landscape – Anthony was a farmer and a Quaker who remained single all her life; Stanton was born to a wealthy family, married young and raised seven children (mostly alone, as her husband conducted his business elsewhere. Nevertheless, they recognized their shared vision from the moment they first met, and for over fifty years of collaboration, hard work, disagreements on policy, frequent absences due to Stanton’s familial responsibilities and pregnancies, their mutual and unflagging devotion to the cause of women's rights – which included the abolition of slavery – enabled these two women to lead and sustain a movement that indisputably revolutionized American society.
