Plot :

The film opens at a party in Los Angeles, California on March 8, 1997. Just as The Notorious B.I.G. is about to be killed in a drive-by shooting, the film flashes back to Biggie's childhood in Bedford–Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, where he (now played by his biological son Christopher Wallace, Jr.) lived during his adolescent years as a good student but soon begins selling drugs. Christopher, (now played by Jamal Woolard) sells drugs at the height of the crack epidemic, hustling with his friends D-Roc (Dennis L.A. White) and Lil' Cease (Marc John Jefferies).

When his girlfriend, Jan Jackson (Julia Pace Mitchell), informs him that she is pregnant, he begins to take his drug dealing more seriously, so he can make more money to support his upcoming child. Christopher eventually takes part in a rap battle, which he wins, but his mother, Voletta Wallace (Angela Bassett), throws him out of the house after finding drugs...

Trama :

Il film ripercorre l'intera vita di Notorious B.I.G., dagli inizi all'apice del successo, sino alla misteriosa morte di cui i responsabili non sono mai stati rintracciati. Il film consente una panoramica sulla vita del rapper, dalla travagliata vita privata ai lustri della vita da star, passando per i suoi trascorsi in prigione e per la strada a spacciare. Nel film l'amicizia ha un ruolo importante, viene presentata quella con Puff Daddy, che lo porterà al successo, quella con l'amico della vita, ed infine l'amicoemico per eccellenza: Tupac.

La faida con Tupac viene raccontato da quando tra i due vi è un rapporto amicale, sino alle misteriose sparatorie che hanno colpito entrambi i rapper, e sulle quali non si è mai saputa la verità.
