Description
Oi The Album
I started out as a teenager listening to The Clash and The Pistols in NYC back in the early 80's and the Ramones n stuff like that. I have wandered across many musical Landscapes as the years have gone on. I came across Oi in Boston back in the 90's when I used to hang with people from the Harvard Square/ Lower Allston Punk/skinhead crowd and was introduced to the likes of Cocksparrer and the 4 skins. I was more into Ska and stuff like that but, something resonated within me when I heard some of these songs. Anyway, I'll get on with it...................... Review and Tracklisting: Not one of the great Oi! compilations, but a fairly decent collection, Oi! The Album includes some of the bigger names associated with that scene, such as the Cockney Rejects, Cock Sparrer, and 4-Skins, as well as some comic bands who often make it onto Oi! compilations for some reason, like Postmen and Max Splodge & Desert Island Joe. The best track is probably Cock Sparrer's "Sunday Stripper," an otherwise hard-to-find song which sounds like a real striptease number, though punked-up by this superb bootboy squad. This one is a delight, as are both of the tunes by the Exploited, "I Still Believe in Anarchy" and "Daily News." They appear on quite a few Oi! compilations. Of the sillier tunes, "Isubleeeene" by Max Splodge & Desert Island Joe is mildly humorous. The Angelic Upstarts have two songs about war on the record, "Last Night Another Soldier" and "Guns for the Afghan Rebels," a song encouraging the military support of the Afghan freedom fighters, who would much later become the Taliban and the leaders of Al Qaeda. Fans of the Oi! music scene will want to try and locate a copy of this record, while folks who are newer to this music can find a more representative compilation elsewhere. Side One "Rob A Bank (Wanna)" - Peter and the Test Tube Babies "Wonderful World" - 4 Skins "Have A Cigar" - The Postmen "Daily News" - The Exploited "Generation Of Scars" - Terrible Twins "Guns For The Afghan Rebels" - Angelic Upstarts "Sunday Stripper" - Cock Sparrer Side Two "Last Night Another Soldier" - Angelic Upstarts "Chaos" - 4 Skins "Here We Go Again" - Cockney Rejects "Isubleeeene" - Max Splodge & Desert Island Joe "Beardsmen" - The Postmen "Cranked Up Really High" - Slaughter & The Dogs "Bootboys" - Barney and The Rubbles "Intensive Care" -Peter And The Test Tube Babies "I Still Believe In Anarchy" - Exploited Art work not included-easy enough to find though, sorry.
