The band's brilliant song "The President's Dead" even uses a fictional assassination as a jumping-off point to ruminate on national tragedies and the way everyday people view themselves in the context of world events. Okkervil River's newest album, an "appendix" to the excellent Black Sheep Boy, again draws on themes of alienation and mystery.
