Presents One Armed Boxer/Flying Guillotine Collection One Armed Boxer is a 1971 Hong Kong martial arts film starring Jimmy Wang Yu. It is about a skilled Chinese martial artist who loses an arm and must exact revenge on his rival school. For the film, Wang Yu, who has both of his arms in real life, had his armed strapped to his back, and some shots his other arm can be briefly seen. Sequels and spinoffs The Flying Guillotine(1975) - Not part of the One armed boxer movies but a good introduction to the "Flying Guillotine" Master of the Flying Guillotine (1976) - Though the film is a direct sequel to Jimmy Wang Yu's One Armed Boxer, it serves as an unofficial sequel to the Shaw Brothers Flying Guillotine (Xuedizi), directed by Ho Meng-Hwa in 1974. Master concerns the "One-Armed" boxer(Jimmy Wang Yu) being stalked by the blind master of the two Tibetan Lama Boxers killed by the handicapped hero in the previous film. The Fatal Flying Guillotines (1977) - A prequel to Master of the Flying Guillotine was made by Hong Kong director Raymond Liu. It serves as an origin story for the evil Master: as a young man he was once a Buddhist monk who betrayed his friends to steal the Flying Guillotine, then in the possession of the elderly(and insane) Master Wu The Vengeful Beauty (1978) - The Vengeful Beauty is a 1978 Shaw Brothers film directed by Meng Hua Ho, starring Lo Lieh, Chen Ping and Norman Chu.(A sequel to the Flying Guillotine) Flying Guillotine II (1978) - This official sequel to The Flying Guillotine was plagued with serious production problems from disappearing, or disgruntled cast members and a change in director. The ruptured shooting schedule is painfully noticeable in places, but there is some genuinely well done sequences here including the ferocious finale inside the Emperors fortress. One of the most downbeat of Shaw pictures, those seeking the action lacking in the original will likely enjoy the bloody ride here. The Guillotines - The Guillotines is an upcoming Chinese/Hong Kong wuxia film directed by Andrew Lau. An elite crime-fighting unit in the court of the Chinese emperor relies on flying swords to defeat their enemies. Due for release in Chine during December 2012. ********************* Du bei chuan wang AKA One-Armed Boxer/ The Chinese Professionals ********************* Release year.........: 1972 Genre................: Action/Drama IMDB rating..........: 7.2/10 IMDB Link............: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0067009/ HKMDB Link...........: http://hkmdb.com/db/movies/view.mhtml?id=5280&display_set=eng Language.............: Americanized Dub!! The Ching Te school is the most prominent martial arts academy in town and controls the local clothes-dyeing and brick factories. In a quick battle, Tien and his friends easily defeat the Hook gang both in the restaurant and again later in the valley where they have a battle royale. The beaten Hook gang members return to Chao and tell him how Tien and the Ching Te school beat them for no reason. More importantly, the Hook gang lies and tells Chao that Tien had disrespected their group. This infuriates Chao enough to go to the Ching Te dojo and challenge Tiens master, Hang Tui, to a fight. Hang Tui quickly defeats Chao, leaving him even more humiliated.Chao plans his revenge by hiring a group of mercenary martial artists from Shanghai. This group consists of two karate experts and their teacher, a Judo master, a Taekwondo expert, two Thai boxing fighters, a Yoga expert, and two mystic Tibetan lamas(who are later revealed in the sequel to be students of an Imperial Assassin). With this group, Chao easily destroys the Ching Te school and all of their businesses, leaving everyone dead except for Tien Lung who loses his right arm. Tien Lung vows revenge and begins his training to destroy anyone and everyone who stands in his way.One Armed Boxer was followed by Master of the Flying Guillotine, with Jimmy Wang Yu reprising his role as the one-armed kung fu master Tien Lung. With his arm strapped behind his back, Wang Yu had earlier portrayed the One-Armed Swordsman in two films for the Shaw Brothers Studio. **************** Xue di zi AKA The Flying Guillotine **************** Release year.........: 1975 Genre................: Action/Drama IMDB rating..........: 7.1/10 IMDB Link............: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0071512/ HKMDB Link...........: http://hkmdb.com/db/movies/view.mhtml?id=5576&display_set=eng Language.............: Chinese or English(badly translated)Dub Subtitles............: None Duration.............: 1h 41mn Source...............: DVD R1 Format...............: MPEG-4 File size............: 824 MB Overall bit rate.....: 1 136 Kbps Writing application..: HandBrake 0.9.6 This Shaw Brothers production introduced the world to one of the most memorably bizarre weapons to ever appear in a martial arts film. Flying Guillotine was inspired by a historical account of the Manchu dynasty and revolves around the development of the title weapon, which is created by general Xin Kang(Ku Feng) to appease an emperor who requests a device that will allow him to quietly dispatch his enemies. Ma Teng(Chen Kuan-Tai) is enlisted to become part of an elite squad trained to use the weapon and quickly excels. However, he finds himself on the run when rival student Xu Shuang-kun(Frankie Wai) plots against him. Ma Teng finds happiness for a short while by living in seclusion with street performer Yu Ping (Lau Ng-Kei) but is ultimately forced to square off with the gang of killers he once belonged to. Flying Guillotine was a big hit for Shaw Brothers, inspiring two follow-ups (Flying Guillotine II and The Vengeful Beauty) as well as a slew of imitators like Master of the Flying Guillotine. It remains a cult favorite today amongst martial arts film fans and is considered by many to be one of the all-time Shaw Brothers classics. ************************************ Du bi quan wang da po xue di zi AKA Master of the Flying Guillotine/ One-Armed Boxer II/ The One Armed Boxer vs. the Flying Guillotine ************************************ Release year.........: 1977 Genre................: Action/Fantasy IMDB rating..........: 7.5/10 IMDB Link............: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0072913/ HKMDB Link...........: http://hkmdb.com/db/movies/view.mhtml?id=5692&display_set=eng Language.............: Americanized Crappy Dub!(but still some undubbed Chinese audio) Subtitles............: None Duration.............: 1h 33mn Source...............: DVD R0 Bootleg Format...............: MPEG-4 File size............: 713 MB Overall bit rate.....: 1 070 Kbps Writing application..: HandBrake 0.9.6 Master of the Flying Guillotine is a 1976 Taiwanese wuxia film starring Jimmy Wang, who also wrote and directed the film. It is a sequel to Wangs 1971 film One Armed Boxer, and thus the film is also known as One-Armed Boxer 2 and The One Armed Boxer vs. the Flying Guillotine. The film concerns Wangs one-armed martial arts master being stalked by an imperial assassin, the master of two fighters(the Tibetan lamas) who were killed in the previous film. When the One-Armed Boxer is invited to attend a martial arts tournament, his efforts to lie low are unsuccessful, and the assassin soon tracks him down with the help of his three subordinates competing in the tournament: a Thai boxer, a yoga master, and a kobojutsu user. The title refers to the assassins weapon, the "flying guillotine", which resembles a hat with a bladed rim attached to a long chain. Upon enveloping ones head, the blades cleanly decapitate the victim with a quick pull of the chain. ********************* Yin yang xie di zi AKA The Fatal Flying Guillotines ********************* Release year.........: 1979 Genre................: Action/Adventure IMDB rating..........: 6.0/10 IMDB Link............: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086622/ HKMDB Link...........: http://hkmdb.com/db/movies/view.mhtml?id=5799&display_set=eng Language.............: Americanized Crappy Dub! This one closely follows the plot of the first Flying Guillotines(1975) where the main character Ma Teng was played by Chen Kuan Tai. Chen did a masterful job of portraying this character, and in this sequel, Lung Ti plays the part with equal authority. Beautiful Taiwanese actor Szu Shih plays the female lead in this movie. The plot picks up where the original Flying Guillotines left off. Ma Teng and his family has now established their life in the country, but they can never let their guards down because the emperors assassins are after them. Emperor Yung Cheng is still the tyrant he was in the first movie, and demands that modifications be made to the flying guillotine to counter Ma Tengs iron umbrella defense. Now a two stage flying guillotine is invented as a result. Na Lan(Szu Shih) is hired by the emperor to train a squad of women assassins to wield the flying guillotine, but she is righteous at heart, and sides with Ma Teng. A plot is hatched to assassinate the emperor, and together they go to the palace. Chen Kuan Tai was signed on to reprise his role as Ma Teng as was Liu Wu Chi who played his wife in the first movie. A couple months into the filming problems began. Actress, Liu Wu Chi inexplicably disappeared. At Cheng Kangs request, Hsiao Yao, Li Han Hsiang, was hired to replace Liu Wu Chi. In October of 1976, Chen Kuan Tai, one of the Shaws biggest moneymakers, abruptly left the studio,So now, FLYING GUILLOTINE 2 was missing its main star. To add insult to injury, Hsiao Yao, who replaced originally cast Liu Wu Chi, followed in her footsteps leaving the film, The Shaws had abandoned numerous productions before, but they were determined to mine a sequel out of the hit original, even if the quagmire was far from solved. Now missing both its main star and actress, Ti Lung stepped into the shoes vacated by Chen Kuan Tai and sad eyed Chen Szu Chia took over the role of Ma Tengs wife. But the storm wasnt over yet. With all the delays and change of cast, the meticulous Cheng Kang was unable to finish the picture, moving on to other projects. Hua Shan, was brought on to finish the film and reshoot portions of it. All the footage with Chen Kuan Tai had to be discarded now and it is likely the script was altered as there were three writers here, I Kuang, initial director, Cheng Kang and Li Yung Chang. Still, much of the chaotic editing appears to be the result of the numerous disruptions the film suffered during its two year gestation. Scenes occasionally begin and end hastily either being noticeably cut short, or appear to be chunks of a larger sequence. The film also has an episodic structure, a quarter of the film sets up the menagerie of characters and another is a series of assassination attempts and rescues.
