Order and History: Volume 1-4

Eric Voegelin, a German born philosopher, wrote these first three volumes in the 1950s to examine the study of order through the study of history, as he stated in the opening pages of his first volume, “The order of history emerges from the history of order.” The fourth volume, published in 1974, breaks this chronological order of the previous volumes by investigating symbolizations of order ranging in time from the Sumerian King List to Hegel.

There is a fifth volume "In Search of Order" that was published posthumously and is not included in this collection.
