Ray Milland, regista e protagonista nel ruolo del capofamiglia, dispiega un inno all'individualismo americano: alla violenza è giusto rispondere con la violenza quando ogni valore è messo in crisi. Il furto per

necessità di sopravvivenza, il ricorso alla giustizia sommaria, e l'assoluta obbedienza che egli chiede ai componenti della famiglia, sono messaggi solo in parte giustificati dalla ipotetica situazione

prospettata nel film, che si chiude (ed è questa una vistosa incongruenza) con l'accorrere dei reparti dell'esercito americano: l'arrivo dei "nostri" - che presumibilmente sono stati parte in causa nello

scoppio della guerra! - lascia intendere che l'ordine e la sicurezza verranno ristabiliti.












Miracolosamente scampata (... erano andati a pesca!) alla distruzione nucleare di Los Angeles, la famiglia Baldwin deve organizzarsi per sopravvivere in una situazione dove i (non pochi) superstiti se ne

infischiano della legge e si abbandonano ad ogni sorta di violenze..................


Storyline

While on a fishing trip, Harry Baldwin (Ray Milland) and his family hear an explosion and realize that Los Angeles has been leveled by a nuclear attack. Looters and killers are everywhere. Escaping to the hills

with his family, he sets about the business of surviving in a world where, he knows, the old ideals of humanity will be first casualties. Not one to give up, he holds up a store for supplies and hides the

family in a cave. .........
