Dolby Headphone, sometimes referred to as Mobile Surround, is a technology which allows you to listen to music, watch movies, or play video games with surround effects using any set of two channel stereo headphones. The sources of this release are surround versions of the tracks ripped from the Blu-ray.

Barber was born in Chicago, Illinois to parents who were both professional musicians. Her father, Floyd "Shim" Barber, was a former member of Glenn Miller's band. Barber was raised in South Sioux City, Nebraska. Her music is centered on her singing, in a fairly low register and a traditional blues-jazz style, and her piano playing, which is technically accomplished. Her repertoire includes original compositions and standards drawn mostly from classic rock, including "Ode to Billie Joe," "A Taste of Honey", and "Black Magic Woman".

The dark, smoky voice of Patricia Barber is quite haunting. On Modern Cool, she mostly sings downbeat songs at slow tempos. All but three songs are her own originals, and they deal with such subject matter as an "homage to beauty" that seems to connect painting one's face with prostitution, loneliness, mindless conformity, the "Postmodern Blues," and other such topics. Barber, whose piano playing is mostly very much in the background, comes across on this set as a pop/folk singer. Most of the jazz moments are provided by trumpeter Dave Douglas, who is on half of the selections and adds some excitement; guitarist John McLean, bassist Michael Arnopol, and drummer/percussionist Mark Walker complete the group.

Grammy 2013 – Best Surround Sound Music Album – Modern Cool was originally released in 1998 and was praised by Jazz critics and audiophiles alike. Luckily for us surround sound aficionados producer Michael Friedman and engineer of the original recordings Jim Anderson decided to go to Skywalker Sound and create a Blu-ray Audio with a new stereo mix and an all new 5.1 surround mix. And how does it sound? Immersive! The 5.1 surround remix is stunning, revealing detail never before heard. The listener is placed in the middle of an imaginary stage with the instruments playing all around. Definitely an experience not to be missed and a Grammy for best surround sound music album well deserved.
