In a way its a way of getting the story to a modern audience told in a new way. We start off with Zeus and Poseidon at the top of the Empire State Building, where Zeus tells us that his lightning has been stolen and thinks Poseidon has something to do with it. Percy Jackson is just ordinary High School kid, rather hyperactive and with dyslexia. Once Percy gets an idea of who he is, and ends up in Demigod camp we are off to an adventure where our hero searches for some pearls whilst people think he is a lightning thief. On their travels, which is conveniently in the USA, we encounter Medusa as played by Uma Thurman, later the monster Hydra and when the team gets to Las Vegas, lets say they end up in their dream casino So far there is an element of inventive storytelling but oh my, some of the lines are clunkers and Chris Columbus who helmed the first two Harry Potter films seems to have been less successful here.
