Un'astronave che trasporta civili verso un nuovo pianeta da terraformare si imbatte in uno sciame di asteroidi e precipita su un pianeta deserto, in cui brilla sempre il sole grazie ad un sistema solare composto da tre stelle. A bordo della nave c'è anche lo spietato criminale chiamato Riddick, che stava per essere lasciato in una prigione di massima sicurezza.







Il gruppo perlustra la zona e scopre che le basi umane installate sono totalmente deserte. Una seconda scoperta è che misteriose e sanguinarie creature extraterrestri sono annidate nell'oscurità della terra. Confortati dal fatto che questi esseri temono la luce del sole, i naufraghi tentano di riparare una nave abbandonata per scappare dal pianeta inospitale, ma, con terrore, scoprono che ogni ventidue anni si verifica una eclissi totale e mancano poche ore all'evento.
