The series is produced by the same team that was responsible for shooting 'Blue Planet', directed by Alastair Fothergill. 40 teams from the British public broadcaster for four years have rolled in over 200 places on the planet. With 10,000 hours of footage were mounted 11 episodes. 5 DVD with the documentary DVD The future and the Earth 6 is the film made with the best film of the 11 episodes -------------------- DVD 1 (Cap 1, 2, 3): -------------------- Chapter 1 - From Pole to Pole: ------------------------------- This first episode looks at our planet as a whole, highlighting the factors that have shaped and have become the planet Earth we know today. Thus, the program shows, for example, how the sun and the succession of the seasons alter the behavior of the animal world. The images of the first output of a polar bear and her two young cubs after hibernation-laden sense of humor, show as never care that mothers provide their babies and the lessons they receive in its two first weeks of contact with the outside. And thanks to new techniques for aerial filming and camera use heligimbal, the chapter shows Okavango wild dogs chasing and hunting down impalas, images previously impossible to achieve because of the conditions of the delta, with large gaps preventing further water overland to these predators in their hunts. The program also shows the dramatic story of the migration of hundreds of elephants crossing the Kalahari Desert to reach the water reserves in the Okavango, and one of the most breathtaking scenes of the series: the slow motion image of a great white shark chasing a seal in the ocean. Episode 2 - Mountains: ------------------------------- The second episode explains the geological and volcanic forces that have shaped the Earth and its mountain ranges and takes a journey through the highest peaks, showing how life unfolds in extreme conditions. At the heart of a volcano in Ethiopia is one of the strangest phenomena of the Earth: a lava lake that has over 100 years erupted. Mountains also discovers how to survive a family of five pumas in the Andes in really harsh conditions and travels to the world's largest glacier, home to the snow leopard. This chapter also shows the intimate moments of a giant panda breeding caring for a few weeks of life. Chapter 3 - Freshwater: ------------------------------- Only three percent of the planet is fresh water, one of our most precious asset, depending on their flow, is distributed all life on Earth. This episode shows the life of the rivers from the mountains to the sea, showing the ecosystems in these uncharted waters. The episode begins in southern Venezuela, the scene of the story "The Lost World by Arthur Conan Doyle, where there is one of the largest waterfalls on earth, the Angel Falls, a drop of 979 meters. The documentary also shows the Iguazu Falls and Pantanal in Brazil, the largest swamp area of the planet, home to fearsome piranhas. To capture this place in all its splendor and maximize visibility under water, the crew had only a few days, the annual period in which the waters of the swamp no longer cloudy. The documentary also delves into the deepest lake on earth, the Baikal, in Siberia, home to the only freshwater seal and giant prehistoric amphibians, and shows other interesting animals such as dolphins of the Amazon, the giant salamanders Some rivers in Japan and Indonesia macaques, filmed for the first time, diving over long distances. -------------------- DVD 2 (Cap 4, 5, 6): -------------------- Chapter 4 - Caves: ------------------------------- The caves are one of the few habitats where wildlife while not receive sunlight. This chapter investigates the mystery of the deep darkness of these places and sample the unknown underground world of caverns, caves and tunnels. Chapter 5 - Deserts: ------------------------------- Deserts cover thirty percent of the Earth's surface and, indeed, from space, is the most striking geographical feature. This episode unravels the secrets of survival in a place so seemingly hostile, showing the ephemeral nature in these parts. Although they all have in common a lack of water, therefore no longer have life. In the Gobi desert in Mongolia, succeed sudden and rapid changes in temperature, from 40 degrees in the summer to 40 below zero winter, "not prevent, however, the presence of animals such as Bactrian camels, which eat snow to stay hydrated. In contrast, in the Atacama Desert in Chile, guanaco obtain water from the cactus spines. BBC teams have had the fortune to shoot some of the strange climatic changes that occur in these ecosystems, for example, a major sandstorm in the Sahara, the Gobi snowfall or a plague of locusts in 65 km wide and 160 long in Death Valley, USA, a show that can only be seen every 30 years. Chapter 6 - Polo: ------------------------------- What makes life hard in the frozen regions of the planet-from the mountaintops to the poles, is not as cold as the difficulty of access to fresh water, however, is in these areas where frost caught 80 percent of the world's fresh water. In Antarctica, winter temperatures fall below 50 degrees below zero, making it officially the coldest place on earth. This greatly extreme weather conditions of life there, making it home to one of the most remarkably adapted creatures on Earth: the emperor penguin. Also mammals in this area are able to survive the Arctic winters, but ending the cold season severely weakened. In this episode, well, you can see how the walruses welcome spring, the time where they can replenish its dwindling reserves, while the sea ice melts and polar bears lose their winter hunting seals : stranded on land, are forced to deal with more unusual prey. -------------------- DVD 3 (Ch 7, 8, 9): -------------------- Chapter 7 - Plains: -------------------------------- The African savannah, the Asian steppe, Arctic tundra and North American prairies are the great plains that cover more than one quarter of our planet, vast open spaces where animals live in groups larger than Earth. This episode reveals the spectacular migration and dramatic struggles that take place in them. So, after three years of filming, "Planet Earth" manages to capture images of the shy Mongolian gazelle, of which only a handful of people have gotten to contemplate their annual migration. And thanks to the most advanced equipment night vision, the program portrays the battle of a proud group of 30 lions hunting elephants and trying to offer images of strange Tibetan fox, filmed for the first time for this documentary series. Chapter 8 - Jungles: -------------------------------- Although forests occupy only three percent of our planet, contain half the world's species. Located on the sunny and warm equatorial zones, are the most productive habitats on Earth. The conditions are perfect for life to thrive, but survive in the jungle is far from easy and finding food is a challenge, especially for larger animals. Thus, the elephants must supplement their diet with minerals extracted from water-filled depressions found in forest clearings. To get the best bits, the elephants have to absorb the water with their trunks and drive the top layer of silt. Moreover, in this episode, the high-definition cameras provide unprecedented images of animals living in the most intricate of the jungle. Thus, in the forest Ngoga, in Uganda, the largest group of chimpanzees in the world to defend its territory from neighboring groups, and in one of their raids, kills and devours a young specimen of a rival group. Chapter 9 - Costs and Reefs: -------------------------------- On coral reefs, biologically rich areas, living creatures that look like out of a fantastic story. This episode shows some of them, like the dwarf seahorses, clams electric or a group of 30 sea snakes stalking prey in packs, a strategy game that had not been filmed before. The episode also discovered large colonies of seabirds nesting in the warm Arabian Desert and dolphins surfing capture prey to get close to the beach. Diving with sea lions, among swirls of anchovies, the series cameras capture the largest gathering of seabirds and krill-eating whales. In addition, digital underwater cameras reveal high-speed events usually difficult to grasp the speed with which they develop. So, thanks to the slowdown of the jump of the predator to catch its prey, you can see the lightning strike the great white shark on a group of seals ------------------- DVD 4 (Cap 10, 11): ------------------- Chapter 10 - Forests: -------------------------------- From the evergreen forests of the frozen north to the equatorial zone deciduous, seasonal forest are the largest forested regions of the Earth. In areas close to the Arctic, the taiga is revealed as a silent world of conifers hidden under snow and ice. Although small trees, the images obtained from the helicopter and from the satellite revealed the true extent of the forest: a belt of trees around the globe, broken only by the ocean, and contains one third of the trees on the planet. However, the animals are scarce, represented by some solitary wanderers, such as lynx or wolverines. The cameras of the program travel to the south, where trees are also the protagonists. In California expect the oldest living organisms on the planet, the Great Basin pines, some over 4,000 years, and the tallest trees, redwoods, giant hundred feet. In Madagascar, the chapter shows a forest of baobabs, probably the strangest of all. In it, the trees 'upside down' store water in their swollen trunks and host equally curious wildlife, such as the tiny lemur. Chapter 11 - Oceanos: -------------------------------- The oceans cover two thirds of the planet and still are, mostly uncharted territory. For animals that live on the surface or in the deepest depths of the water, find food without losing too much energy is essential. "Planet Earth" travels the world to reveal the extraordinary life forms it takes in this vast and barren world in order to survive. In Venezuela, a 30-tonne whale shark is filmed gorging on a shoal of fish, a diet very different from the usual, consisting mainly of plankton. Heligimbal camera used by the program also can follow the impressive accomplishments of the common dolphin swim, which can reach a speed of 30 kilometers per hour. With night vision cameras, the episode shows the migration of a huge bank of plankton near Hawaii, a trip that is eagerly awaited by a huge manta ray you want to feast. In Costa Rica the night hides a squadron of squid, desperately trying to escape the sonar of dolphins ready for hunting.
