Primal Fear is een Amerikaanse thriller uit 1996 van regisseur Gregory Hoblit. Deze baseerde het verhaal op William Diehls gelijknamige boek uit 1992 (in het Nederlands verschenen als 'Het teken van het beest'). Edward Norton kreeg voor zijn filmdebuut in Primal Fear onder meer een Golden Globe en werd genomineerd voor een Academy Award voor Beste Mannelijke Bijrol.
Een arrogante advocaat neemt de zaak aan van een jongen die door de politie opgepakt werd terwijl hij wegrende van een moord op een bisschop. De zaak wordt complex als duidelijk wordt dat er, naast de jongen, misschien nog een derde persoon aanwezig was ten tijde van de moord.
