Quantum Break is the first game from the Finnish studio Remedy Entertainment created with the technical capabilities of Xbox One in mind. Modern time travel theories were the developer's main inspiration and there are several CERN staff among the game's technical consultants.

Story

The divided into episodes, the game takes place in not too distant future, where the cutting edge time travel research takes place at the fictional North Eastern U.S. Riverport University. During one of the experiments an accident happens. In its wake, the time begins to end and the world faces impending doom, while three scientists – Jack Joyce, Beth Wilder and Paul Serene – receive powers that allow them to manipulate time. They split into two groups – two of them try to fix everything while the third one, Paul, is convinced that the catastrophe cannot be avoided and is intending to gain as much from it as possible.

Gameplay

The gameplay is similar to most cinematic action games for which Remedy Entertainment is famous (for example, the Max Payne franchise). The game is full of dynamic shootouts and chases. Action is presented in third person perspective and the player can control two characters, frequently using various special powers like temporary speeding up or stopping time.
An interesting and fresh idea used in Quantum Break is combining the game with a personalized television series in which the players will see some well known actors. Both during the game and while watching the show, the player will be tasked with making various decisions which will have direct impact on the game and on what will be seen in the TV series.

Technology

The graphics of Quantum Break are generated by Remedy's in-house engine, the Northlight Engine. It was was designed to employ the full potential of the Xbox One console. The engine allows creating spectacular locations as well as very realistic faces and facial expressions.
