Queens of British Pop Wednesday 01 April 10:45pm - 11:50pm BBC1 1/2 There are no surprises in this cheery canter through a roster of British pop queens from the 1970s and 80s, but there are some good old clips and some pretty high-quality talking heads. Such as composer Burt Bacharach, who almost swoons at the mention of the mighty Dusty Springfield, she of the helmet-hair and the voice full of soul. "God, I wish she was around still," says Bacharach, with feeling. Another contributor, Lulu, even has a little cry as she recalls how "sensitive and vulnerable" Springfield was. The idea behind Queens of British Pop is to show us, as if we didn't already know, that today's poptastic divas - Amy Winehouse, Adele and so on - owe much to the singing sisterhood that went before. So, along with Dusty, we are presented with Sandie Shaw (no, I didn't think she was that influential, either), Suzi Quatro and Kate Bush. --- File Information --- File Name: Queens of British Pop - Episode 1 .thebox.hannibal.avi File Size: 537,946,112 --- Container Information --- Base Type: AVI(.AVI) --- Video Information --- Video Codec Name: XviD 1.0.3 Duration: 1:04:01 Frame Width (pixels): 608 Frame Height (pixels): 336 Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.000 Display Aspect Ratio: 1.810 Frames Per Second: 25.000 Video Bitrate (kbps): 982 --- Audio Information --- Audio Codec: 0x0055 MPEG-1 Layer 3 Audio Sample Rate(Hz): 48000 Audio Bitrate(kbps): 128 Audio Channel Count: 2 =============================== Some of the other rather spiffing shows available now and always if you signup free @ www.TheBox.bz: Comedy: The Office, Peep Show, Coupling, Chef, Fawlty Towers, Only Fools and Horses, The IT Crowd, Brass Eye, Nathan Barley, Young Ones, Monty Python, Blackadder, Alan Partridge, Father Ted, Coupling, Little Britain, Mr Bean, Extras, Green Wing, Mighty Boosh Drama: Casualty, Holby City, The Bill, Hustle, Skins, Shameless, Ashes To Ashes Entertainment: Faking It, Derren Brown, Scrapheap Challenge, Strictly Come Dancing, Wife Swap Game/Quiz Shows: Whose Line Is It Anyway?, Have I Got News For You, Deal Or No Deal (UK) Education/Documentary: Planet Earth, Horizon, Panorama, Mark Thomas (Comedy) Product Food: Hell's Kitchen, Jamie Oliver, The F Word, Kitchen Nightmares, Masterchef, Great British Menu, Gordon Ramsay's Cookalong Home/Property/Garden: Property Ladder, How Clean Is Your House?, Changing Rooms, Grand Designs, Homes Under The Hammer, To Buy Or Not To Buy Motoring: Top Gear, Fifth Gear Music: Top Of The Pops, Jools Holland Reality: Big Brother, Celebrity Big Brother, I'm a Celebrity - Get Me Out of Here!, Any Dream Will Do, Grease, Pop Idol, Wife Swap, X Factor, Badger Or Bust, Apprentice UK, Dragons' Den Sci-Fi: Doctor Who, Red Dwarf, Torchwood Sport: Football (Soccer), Cricket, Rugby, Snooker, Darts, Formula One (F1GP) Soaps: Eastenders, Coronation Street, Emmerdale, Neighbours, Hollyoaks Style/Fashion: What Not To Wear, Project Catwalk Kids: Teletubbies, Blue Peter, Tikkabilla, Andy Pandy, Postman Pat, Shoebox Zoo, Brum, Bob The Builder, Young Dracula, Sarah Jane Adventures, Shaun The Sheep Sharing Widget |
