Ram Swarup - Understanding the Hadith The Sacred Traditions of Islam

This is a summary and interpretation of many hadith from one of the major muslim sources (Sahih Hadith) by a noted (Hindu) Scholar. It covers all aspects of the religion, from politics and jihad to sex and food.

The book was actually published in English first (1982) and sold briskly, but upon publication of the Hindi version in 1987, complaint was lodged with the police, all copies were confiscated from the printer, the publisher was chased by a lynch mob and, subsequently, imprisoned.

In 1990 and 1991, the Hindi and English versions respectively were banned in India for inciting religious hatred. As far as I know, Hindi and English versions are still banned there.
